Yes, it was cold. It was foggy. Although it wasn’t the best day at the Frying Pan to be out on the Hudson River waterfront, the bands I saw play, Social Hero and The Telephones,  sizzled alongside Aussies/New Zealanders, all-you-can-eat BBQ, and lovely views of the skyline and sunset for ANZAC Day. Silly me, I forgot to mention I was heading to Fontana’s to see That Handsome Devil on Friday night. Well, I did. And, I’m glad. It’s been almost a year since I last saw the band play, but the lasting first impression was upheld as THD packed the venue. Quirky, danceable, and energetic, the band combines jazz, rock, and funk beats with growling vocals and hip hop influences. They collaborated with soul singer Kendra Morris for a crowd-pleasing version of The Proclaimers’ “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles).”
